A few years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court, in a landmark decision, overruled the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). This means that same-sex married couples can now receive the same immigration benefits as opposite-sex couples.  Also, same-sex couples in California now have the legal right to marry and take advantage of immigration benefits.
